- By using the Bookstore, you agree to comply with and be bound by this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use.
- SYDA is based in the United States, and personal information collected through the Bookstore is generally processed in the United States. The Siddha Yoga Bookstore is powered by the Shopify ecommerce platform, and certain Bookstore information may also be processed by Shopify and other service providers outside the United States. Site Usage Information We Track
- When necessary, SYDA may use your IP address to help diagnose problems with its server and to administer the Bookstore. SYDA also may track, in aggregate and on an anonymized basis, the browser and device types, geographic location, and behavior of visitors to help SYDA understand its visitors' needs related to our site designs.
Cookies
- Cookies are small text files that ask information to be put on your computer by websites that you visit.
- Your browser allows you to erase the cookies, block cookies, or receive a warning before a cookie is stored.
- Please refer to your browser instructions for further information.
- In some instances, unless the cookies are accepted, parts of SYDA’s website may not function.
- If you allow cookies to be used, SYDA will store the cookie files, which will enable SYDA to measure the use of the pages and features on the Bookstore.
- Some cookies are necessary for the Siddha Yoga Bookstore to function. On the Bookstore, which is powered by Shopify, SYDA and its service providers use cookies and similar technologies to maintain cart, checkout, and account functionality, remember preferences, support security and fraud prevention, and understand how visitors use the Bookstore. Some information collected through these technologies may be personal to you.
- Where required by applicable law, SYDA will provide choices regarding non-essential cookies and similar technologies used on the Bookstore. With your consent, SYDA uses Google Analytics on the Bookstore to understand how visitors use the site so that SYDA can improve it. SYDA has configured Google Analytics so that Google Signals and advertising features are off and data is not shared for Google advertising purposes.
Information SYDA Foundation Collects
- Registration is necessary to visit or participate in some areas of the Bookstore.
- Certain portions of the Bookstore may condition your access on the provision of personally identifiable information.
- These sections contain forms, which require your name and email address, date of birth, and country of residence and which may request, but not require, other personally identifiable information, including your postal address or phone number.
- Also, the Bookstore allows you the option of registering to receive emails about new products or other matters of interest regarding the Siddha Yoga Bookstore, Siddha Yoga events, and SYDA.
- By entering your data into these forms, you give SYDA permission to use and store your personal information, to contact you via email, to send email messages to you containing information relating to your interest in SYDA and, as necessary for such purposes, to share your information with third-party service providers who commit to use reasonable measures to protect the confidentiality of your personal data in a manner consistent with our policies.
- SYDA does not ask you to provide sensitive personal information (such as government identification numbers, health information, financial account passwords, biometric or genetic data, race or ethnicity, political opinions, trade union membership, or information about sexual activity or sexual orientation) through the Siddha Yoga Bookstore. However, because the Bookstore concerns Siddha Yoga teachings, events, and related materials, your interactions with it may reflect an interest in Siddha Yoga or related spiritual content. SYDA uses any such information only as described in this Privacy Policy. Where SYDA processes information that may reveal religious or philosophical belief and the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation applies, SYDA relies on your explicit consent under Article 9(2)(a). You may withdraw that consent at any time, without affecting processing that occurred before the withdrawal or processing that SYDA must continue in order to comply with its legal obligations.
- SYDA processes personal information where necessary to operate the Bookstore, provide requested services, fulfill orders, maintain accounts and records, communicate with you, protect the Bookstore and its users, comply with legal obligations, and pursue SYDA's legitimate organizational interests, and, where required by applicable law, with your consent. Where SYDA relies on consent to process personal information, you may withdraw that consent at any time, without affecting processing that occurred before the withdrawal.
- The option to “opt-out” of receiving emails and mailings is available to you at any time that you request it. You can terminate these by sending an email to orders@siddhayogabookstore.org.
- If you have any questions about the privacy of any information submitted to the Bookstore, please contact SYDA by email at orders@siddhayogabookstore.org or by postal mail at SYDA Foundation Bookstore, P.O. Box 600, South Fallsburg, NY 12779, USA.

When you use the Bookstore, information you provide and information about your use of the Bookstore may be transmitted to and processed by Shopify and its service providers in order to provide, secure, maintain, and improve the ecommerce platform.
- For customer information collected through the Bookstore, SYDA is the controller of your personal information and Shopify acts as a service provider or data processor that processes that information on SYDA’s behalf and on SYDA’s instructions. SYDA does not enable Shopify’s optional enhanced services or advertising features for the Bookstore. In particular, Shopify Network Intelligence, Shopify Audiences and other cross-merchant or personalized advertising, the Shop Pay and Shop App features, and third-party advertising or retargeting pixels (such as Meta or Google) are not enabled for the Bookstore. The Bookstore may display product recommendations (for example, “you may also like”) based on activity within the Bookstore; these recommendations do not rely on the cross-merchant or personalized advertising features just described.
- For more information about Shopify’s privacy practices, you may review Shopify’s Consumer Privacy Policy at https://www.shopify.com/legal/privacy/app-users.
Security and Privacy
- SYDA retains records of individuals who make purchases through the Bookstore in its database.

Although SYDA and its service providers use safeguards designed to protect personal information, no website, platform, transmission, or storage system is completely secure, and SYDA cannot guarantee absolute security.
Retention of Personal Information
- SYDA retains personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to maintain accounts, process and fulfill orders, provide customer service, maintain financial and accounting records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and enforce applicable terms and policies. Historical order and transaction records may be retained in SYDA’s internal systems even where they are not displayed to you in the Bookstore. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and the reason it is collected.

Your Legal Rights
You have the right to the following actions:
- Request access to your personal data (commonly known as a “data subject access request”). This enables you to receive a copy of the personal data SYDA holds about you and to check that the data is being lawfully processed.
- Request correction of the personal data that SYDA holds about you. This enables you to have any incomplete or inaccurate data corrected, though SYDA may need to verify the accuracy of the new data you provide.
- Request erasure of your personal data. This enables you to ask SYDA to delete or remove personal data where there is not a good reason for SYDA to continue to process it. You also have the right to ask SYDA to delete or remove your personal data where you have successfully exercised your right to object to processing (see below), where SYDA may have processed your information unlawfully, or where SYDA is required to erase your personal data to comply with local law. Please note, however, that SYDA may not always be able to comply with your request of erasure for specific legal reasons which will be notified to you, if applicable, at the time of your request.
- Object to processing of your personal data where SYDA is relying on a legitimate interest (or those of a third party) and there is something about your particular situation that makes you wish to object on this ground. You also have the right to object where SYDA processes your personal data for direct marketing purposes.
- Request restriction of processing of your personal data. This enables you to ask SYDA to suspend the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances, for example if you want SYDA to establish its accuracy or the reason for processing it.
- Request the transfer of your personal data to you or to a third party, in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, where the processing is based on your consent or on a contract with you and is carried out by automated means.
- Withdraw consent at any time where SYDA is relying on consent to process your personal data. This will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdraw your consent.
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to lodge a complaint at any time with your local data protection supervisory authority — in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). You are not required to contact SYDA before doing so. SYDA would, however, welcome the opportunity to address your concerns.
