What Is Raksha Bandhan and What Is a Rakhi?
Raksha bandhan is a Sanskrit term that means "a bond of protection." The holiday Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the full moon day of Shravan in the Indian calendar and usually occurs in the month of August.
Traditionally in India, Raksha Bandhan celebrates the love and respect between siblings, marked on the day by a sister tying a bracelet made of colored threads—the rakhi—around the wrist of her brother. On the Siddha Yoga path, Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of the sacred bond between Guru and disciple.
