Hundreds of years ago in the village of Pandharpur in western India, the Lord in the form of Vitthal appeared to a grateful devotee. Since that time, millions of pilgrims have journeyed to Pandharpur every year chanting Vitthal's name ecstatically as they travel to worship in his holy temple. The melody is in the Bhairavi raga which evokes a mood of yearning for union with God.
